August Update
We were pleased to receive the news that Todmorden was awarded a silver-gilt medal this year by Yorkshire in Bloom.
We scored gold for our summer bedding and silver gilt for most other areas. It is also great news that Todmorden Station
received a Silver award; this is especially pleasing as it is the first time that they have entered the competition;
so well done to the Friends of Todmorden Station. Todmorden in Bloom is committed to working with them.
Despite some cool weather the summer displays in the barrier baskets and large planters continued to put on a great show;
the petunias looked particularly vibrant and colourful. Hopefully they helped to cheer Todmorden folk when the weather disappointed.
Group members held regular work sessions on Sunday mornings to make the best of public garden areas such as the Peace Garden, the Sensory Garden and the Secret garden.
Although we didn’t run a sunflower growing competition this year, it was really nice to hear from one of last year’s winners,
young Maximilian Misiurska, who used some of last year’s seeds to grow monster sized blooms again this year!
Judging was completed for our garden Competition; many thanks to all the entrants who worked hard to make their
gardens ‘competition ready’. We all look forward to the presentation evening on October 7th.
